BACKGROUND
Having been employed within the South African Police Service and the Financial Services Industry, Gert has hands on civil and criminal law experience. He holds the degrees B Proc and LLB respectively obtained in 2003 and 2005 from UNISA, and a NDIP (POL Admin) from Technikon S.A. He was admitted as an Advocate in October 2006.
FIELDS OF EXPERTISE
General motion court work, civil and criminal trials, divorces, labour law and drafting of pleadings. Due to his experience in the banking industry, Gert has gained extensive knowledge in credit law and in the internal processes followed by banks when making credit assessments etc.
RECENT PRACTICE HISTORY
He joined the Johannesburg Bar in 2007 and presently receives briefs from attorneys practicing in all areas of law. He has done opinions on pension fund matters and on the National Credit Act. A recent favourable decision in a matter concerning the National Credit Act, in which he was involved, is currently pending on appeal in the Supreme Court of Appeal.
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE Gert was employed with the South African Police Service from 1989 to 2000. He has ten years’ experience as a detective, investigating mainly fraud and corruption and other white collar crimes.
Holding the rank of Captain, he left the South African Police Service as Head of Intelligence at the Gauteng Anti-Corruption Unit in 2000. He then joined Imperial Bank, where he was Departmental Head of the Legal Department at The Motor Finance Corporation.
