BACKGROUND
André Bezuidenhout graduated
from the University of Potchefstroom with the degrees
B Juris and LLB in 1986 and 1988. He served as a Prosecutor
and a Magistrate in the Department of Justice between
1984 to 1988. André joined the Johannesburg Bar
in 1989 and practiced since then in the Bar. He is also
an admitted Advocate in Lesotho and is currently in
the second year of his PhD; in which he is researching
major constitutional issues regarding Tax Law.
FIELDS OF EXPERIENCE
André is recognized as one of
the leading counsel in exchange control disputes. He
has a large practice in Tax Law and in particular compliance
issues regarding tax and administrative obligations
on tax payers. He frequently appears in commercial crime
matters and has a large practice in mergers and acquisitions.
He continues to act for major national and international
companies in tax and commercial matters.
RECENT PRACTICE HISTORY
André has appeared in courts
of law in South Africa and Lesotho for the past twenty
years. He frequently represents prominent individuals
in tax related matters with government. He also acts
for government organizations in complex matters of Administrative
Law.
He has a large commercial practice
and is retained by leading insurance industry concerns
and some of the largest corporate tax payers in South
Africa to advise on numerous complex tax issues. He
has wide ranging skills in Arbitrations and has recently
acted for a multinational company in a major international
arbitration in the United Kingdom.
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
André has a wide variety of
experience in Commercial Law and Administrative Law.
He frequently engages with government organizations
at all levels to resolve matters. He is known as a skilled
negotiator with an ability to resolve matters. André
is acknowledged as one of the leading practitioners
who contributes widely to the transformation of the
Advocate’s profession.
